Australian Fifty Cent Coins

2000 Royal Visit Silver Proof 50c

99.99% Silver Proof

The 2000 Fine Silver 50c Royal Visit coin marks a great stepping stone for Australian coin collecting and coin design. For the first time since 1936 and the very first time ever on decimal coinage, an Australian coin will feature a Royal effigy designed by an Australian!
The Royal Australian Mint has obtained special permission from Buckingham Palace to feature an effigy by Australian Vladimir Gottwald (a Royal Australian Mint designer) on the Royal Visit coin, celebrating the visit to Australia in March 2000 of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Vladimir’s Australian effigy will feature only on this commemorative coin and its circulating coin equivalent. This effigy will not be used again.

Vladimir has also designed the reverse of this impressive silver proof coin, featuring our flag flying above Parliament House. Alongside the flag is St Edward’s Crown, believed to contain gold from Edward the Confessor’s crown, who is thought to be the first monarch to assemble a regalia.

Packaged in a royal red velvet presentation case with a crown on the lid, it fits into an outer box which features an embossed silver image of St Edward’s Crown. The outer box, in silver and a eucalypt green, has ghosted into its design Australia’s national flower, the Golden Wattle. This 50c silver proof coin has a numbered certificate of authenticity .
